ENROLLMENT FOR THE NUTCRACKER IS CLOSED FOR THE 2025/26 SESSION.

We are thrilled to invite your dancer to participate in one of our most cherished traditions — The Nutcracker! This beloved holiday classic brings our entire dance community together in an unforgettable performance that your dancer won’t want to miss.

Whether your child is a seasoned ballerina or simply loves to dance, this experience is open to dancers of all styles and backgrounds! While ballet is the primary dance style featured, all dancers are welcome to join the fun. Participants must be enrolled in any class at Next Step Broadway during the season and be at least 6 years old by early September to be eligible.

Rehearsals

Rehearsals take place every Saturday from early September through mid-December at our Southfield location (excluding holiday weekends).

Time slots will fall sometime between 8:30 AM and 2:30 PM, with most recreational dancers rehearsing for 30–90 minutes, depending on their role(s).

As the performance approaches, expect longer rehearsals — especially in November. A detailed schedule will be released closer to the start of the season.

Key Dates to Note:

• Full Run-Through Rehearsals: Mid-to-late November and early December
• Tech & Dress Rehearsals + Performances: Mid-December (Saturday & Sunday)

Auditions

Auditions are a vital part of casting and ensure every dancer finds their perfect role.

Audition Day is typically held in early June at our Southfield location. This is for:

• Dancers interested in The Nutcracker
• New or returning competitive team hopefuls (First Step and Triple Threats Levels 2 & 3)
• Or both!

Sample Audition Times by Age Group:

• Ages 5–7: Late morning
• Ages 8–9: Early afternoon
• Ages 10+: Mid-afternoon
